Amine-functionalized gold nanorods have a precisely engineered surface chemistry that allows them to bind to moieties that react with primary amines in a simple and efficient manner. An example of such a reaction would be conjugation to an NHS-labelled protein or antibody. This would result in a covalent bond between the gold nanoparticle surface and the protein. This permanent bond allows for further downstream applications, such as the monitoring of the distribution of the now-tagged molecule.

Amine gold nanorods are available with 3 different aspect ratios, with maxima of 650nm, 700nm, or 770nm, and are also available with 2 different spacer lengths (3 kDa and 5 kDa).
